Water-based Coatings

Water-based Coatings

Sustainable and environment-friendly paper and paperboard packaging is the need of the hour and there is a growing demand for these products with increasing environmental consciousness among consumers. Barrier coatings that use polyethylene, paraffin-based waxes, silicones, and fluorochemicals are no longer desirable and water-based barrier coatings are the ideal sustainable solution for paper and paperboard packaging manufacturers.

Water-based barrier coatings form an effective and protective sealant-like layer preventing the migration of water vapour, oxygen, and other gases and chemicals, keeping the packaged product fresh and safe and also keeping the packaging intact and attractive for longer. Heat-sealable coatings are specialized coatings for products that do not possess heat-sealable qualities. These coatings can be applied to paper and aluminium foil-based packaging products depending on usage.

These coatings are ideal for food and non-food product applications such as packaging for food, frozen food, microwave, and ovens. It is also a sustainable solution for menu trays, fruit and vegetable trays, ice cream cups, and cones, drinking cups for hot and cold drinks, chocolate wrappers, bakery products, prepared meals/salads/sandwiches, pet food, detergents, and paper plates.

BC14TE – Non-heat sealing coating for paper substrate

Teraforrm barrier coating is an acrylic hybrid coating with both water and oil-resistant characteristics, imparting stain resistance and barrier properties when applied on various porous substates. The coating shows an excellent water-beading effect providing self-cleaning properties. Other salient properties include fast drying, high coverage, and a non-leaching system.

Barrier coatings are certified by TUV SUD, meeting FDA requirements. Some of its special features are high humidity, temperature resistance, and antilocking properties to aggressive stains.

BC02TE – Water-based sealing coating for paper substrate

Teraforrm coating is a water-based heat seal coating with hydrophobic and oleophobic characteristics that impart stain-resistant properties to paper substrates. The coating results in a fibre tear seal strength when coated “face to face” and “face to non-face”. Other salient properties include fast drying, high coverage, and a non-leaching system.

Teraforrm coatings are certified by TUV SUD, meeting FDA requirements. Some of its special features are low sealing temperature, low coefficient friction, strong adhesion to metal, effectiveness in a single coat, and Zero VOC.

FC08TE – Heat-sealing lacquer for aluminium substrate

Teraforrm coating is a water-based heat seal coating for aluminium-to-aluminium bonding. Unlike conventional heat seal coatings, FC08TE has excellent adhesion to metal surfaces which avoids ‘stringing’. The coating has very good anti-blocking properties and a low coefficient of friction (COF).

Teraforrm coatings are certified by TUV SUD, meeting FDA requirements. Some of its special features are low sealing temperature, low coefficient friction, strong adhesion to metal, effectiveness in a single coat, and Zero VOC.
